Welcome home, dad

Cleo

Cleo was glad to see me when I got home this afternoon.

The ride from Calgary was uneventful, which — considering some of the “events” from the past 10 days — is a good thing.

As frustrated as I was with my bike when it was acting up in the plus 30 heat, I fell in love with it again riding yesterday and today in the mid-teens weather. It ran smooth as butter. But I’m still planning to take it in to Proline, our local Yamaha dealership, to see if they can identify and remedy the problem.

Here’s our ride, by the numbers:

Total kilometers ridden: 4,438

Average kilometers per day: 444 (Not counting Vernon to Sicamous ride)

Number of broken bones: 7 (4 ribs; 1 scapula; 1 ankle; 1 toe)

Number of motorcycles stolen: 1 (2011 Triumph Speed Triple)

Number of days: 11

Number of hotel nights: 7

Number of provinces: 3 (Saskatchewan; Alberta; British Columbia)

Number of ferry rides: 4 (Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons; Earls Cove to Saltery Bay; Powell River to Comox; Victoria to Tsawwassen)

Number of national parks: (Banff; Kootenay; Glacier)

And here are some updates on the rest of the crew:

Les Haugrud: Les was discharged from hospital and is at home now in Abbotsford. His mother is staying with him. He’s feeling a lot better and his breathing has improved.

Thomas Bradt: Thomas flew home today from Kelowna. Unfortunately, the footage from the video surveillance camera was crap quality. And Vernon police didn’t have any leads by the time he left. Now he’s praying for a fair settlement from SGI. He’s also scoped out a GPS tracking device he’s going to install on his next bike.

Jon (Jager Bomb) Salois: Jon reached the southern-most point in his ride down the West Coast. He’s scouting roads for another group ride.  Check out the size of this California redwood tree (Sequoia sempervirens):
